September 2023
Building works at Holy Trinity Church are set to begin on Monday 9th October. Planning permission is in place for the church to build a small extension on the north side which will accommodate an accessible toilet, kitchenette, and meeting room. The new extension will rest on pile foundations, rather than requiring an excavation of the area. This method of construction is intended to minimise disruption to the churchyard and preserve the integrity of the space as a Christian burial ground. Minor reordering work will also take place at the west end of the church and the front of the nave, to improve circulation and accessibility within the building. The work is expected to take 40 weeks.
The site office for the work will be located at the Coach House car park, on Quarry Road, and for safety reasons the church path between the Coach House and the churchyard will be cordoned off during working hours (8am to 4pm Monday to Friday). Pedestrian access to the church and churchyard will be via Trinity Road during these hours. During the works, a small area of the churchyard around the extension site will be fenced off to ensure the safety of the public and contractors. The south side of the churchyard will remain fully accessible.
