Remembrance Sunday

Our parish Eucharist at 10am next Sunday will include an Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial at 10.45am, and we look forward to welcoming members of 7th Headington Brownies.

Please note that from November, our pattern of Morning Prayer will be shifting to Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9am. This will enable us to keep a steady pattern of worship into the vacancy. All the books for morning prayer are available in the Lady Chapel for use by anyone – you are welcome to use these for prayer with or without clergy present.

Building project

A prayer for the end of the project:
God of vision and hope,
we thank you for our church building;
a place of prayer and pilgrimage,
witnessing to your love and presence in our midst.
We thank you for guiding us through
to the completion of the building project.
Keep us united in vision and focus as we celebrate this milestone, and grant us your peace.
in the name of Jesus Christ our Cornerstone.
Amen.

The flowers in church today have been given in memory of a dearly loved son and brother, Samuel James Day from his Mum, Dad and sisters.

Thank you to our supporting clergy

Over the years Holy Trinity has been blessed to have the support of many wonderful retired clergy. As we send Revd Peter Boulton-Lea off to his new home in Sherborne with our love and prayers, we are also marking a transition for Revd Anne Kiggell, who will be retiring from public ministry at the end of this year. We are extremely grateful for the ministry Anne has offered at Holy Trinity over the years, and especially for her thoughtful and incisive preaching. Anne will be marking this milestone at the midweek communion at Holy Trinity on Wednesday 6th November at 10am. It would be lovely to see many of us there to celebrate her ministry, and to pray for her and David at this time of transition.

Meet up at Bury Knowle Cafe Saturday 9 November at 10am

A number of us are meeting for coffee and cake (with a chance for crazy golf or tennis if you prefer!) at the new Bury Knowle Cafe. Do join us. (Dominic 07963 398244)

Robert Twycross

Our dear friend Robert died on Sunday 20th October. The whole family had come to be with Deirdre as she nursed him through the last hours of what had become an increasingly debilitating illness. Robert achieved so much during his lifetime of work in palliative care. I want to pay tribute to him as a deeply loving and caring man and very good friend. Robert was never afraid to shed tears about so many things that distressed or upset him both at the personal and at the national and international level.
When David and I arrived at Holy Trinity in 2008, Robert and Deirdre were the first couple that we got to know. They welcomed us for meals and David and Robert would enjoy long theological chats. Robert was a rock for me when David was dying and put us in contact with the great palliative care services that operate through Michael Sobell House. Over the years I have kept good contact with Robert and I was always struck by his deeply personal faith Christian faith which he loved to talk about. In the early days of our being at Holy Trinity Robert and Lionel Tarasenko were leading courses for any of us to join to explore the Christian faith more deeply and they were wonderfully rich evenings.
I rarely saw Robert without Deirdre at his side and their love for each other and the people they welcomed into their home from all over the world was beautiful to experience.
We will miss him and we will have Deirdre and their family so much in our minds and hearts over these next weeks and months. Sue Saville.

Robert Twycross’s funeral will be held at All Saints Highfield in Lime Walk on Friday 15th November at 10.30am. All are welcome to attend.

Date for your diary

Laura’s last service at Holy Trinity will be the 10am Service on November 24th. There will be a lunch celebration in church  after the service, so look out for more updates in the notices.

Posada 2024

What is Posada all about? During the evenings leading up to Christmas Day, a nativity set of Mary and Joseph travel around the parish, visiting a different member of our church family every night. This provides a great opportunity to meet new church members or get to know others a little better as you transport Mary and Joseph to the next home on the rota. There is a prayer to say as you welcome them into your home and as you set them off on their journey to the next one. If you would like to offer Mary and Joseph a home for the night this Advent, please contact Helen Dancer at helen@nsolve.com or phone: 07854173016 (text probably best), giving me suitable dates and I will add you to the rota. I have also given Helen Day access to the rota (Parish Office), so you can contact her to take part. I will have the rota with me in church, so catch me after the service to sign up. I hope there will be room in your inn this year! Helen Dancer

Now that the extension is complete, and we have more space to keep clean, we are looking for people to augment the cleaning teams. We currently have teams of 2, who clean every 5th week. Could you help in this role? If so please speak to Janet Masters or the wardens to find out more to see if you can help out.

Laura to leave Holy Trinity

All who attend worship at Holy Trinity, and all who listen to broadcasts of our services whether at home or from hospital, will welcome the good news that the building work has very nearly been completed. We, therefore, feel great gratitude to our Vicar, the Revd. Laura Biron-Scott, whose faith, prayerfulness, perseverance, dedication and capacity to get along with other people, have guided us safely to so happy a conclusion. However, one of Laura’s predecessors at Holy Trinity used to say that the reward for good work is more work, and that proves to be true in Laura’s case as well. Laura will, in fact, be leaving the Parish at the end of November to take on a role of ministry in an academic environment as Chaplain of Balliol College, Oxford. So our joy is tinged with sadness at her departure, but a sadness relieved by the thought that she will remain close by and we still might hope to see her from time to time. We ask for God’s blessing upon Laura and we pray for her ministry in her new calling.
